April 8, 2021

Dear Hightstown Community:

I am happy to announce that Mayor Quattrone is doing well and is expected to re-join the Governing Body at its next meeting on April 19, 2021.

The improvements to sidewalks and curbing on Stockton and Joseph Streets (a Safe Routes to School Grant), as well as the re-paving of Joseph Street, will begin shortly with the paving of Stockton Street by the County to follow this summer.  The contract for the roadway and/or utility improvements to Springcrest Drive, Taylor Avenue, Spruce Court, Glen Drive, and Schuyler Avenue has been awarded and will start soon. Please use care when driving in the areas of these projects and excuse the inconvenience; these improvements will benefit all of us in the long-term.

The Commissions of the Borough are busy working to provide the community with events (with limited capacity) and projects for the benefit of our community while adhering to the required guidelines.  The “Hightstown’s Got Talent” virtual program this past month was a huge success; Hightstown certainly does have talent!  The Environmental Commission will be holding their Arbor Day activities on April 17th and will include a tree planting, clean-up, and shredding event.  The Parks & Recreation Commission is beginning improvements to Dawes Park and hope to have the basketball court refurbished soon.  This project is being covered by a Mercer at Play Grant and is scheduled to include the installation of skate art.  We look forward to the improvements and appreciate your patience during the disruption in availability of the basketball court and/or park during the projects.  The walkways in Association Park have recently been re-surfaced, which we can all appreciate when we’re outside now that Spring is here.

As more and more COVID vaccines are administered, the spread of the disease is slowing; however, we must still remain diligent with social distancing, wearing of masks, and washing of hands if we hope to beat the virus.  Do not let your guard down now, we are closing in on the finish line.  If you have not yet registered for the vaccine, I encourage you to do so.  It is strongly encouraged that everyone register online for the vaccine.  The State has also established a hotline, 855-568-0545, to assist New Jersey residents with obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine and assisting those residents without computers/internet access with registering for the vaccine.  The interactive voice response platform is in both English and Spanish, and the phone line is staffed with live agents seven days a week.

If you are a Hightstown Borough Resident, 75 years of age or older and/or homebound, and having difficulty scheduling an appointment to receive the vaccine, please call the Health Department at 609-936-8400.  It is important that these susceptible individuals be vaccinated now, and the Health Department will assist with the scheduling of appointments to assure those who are most vulnerable receive the vaccine.

The lives of your family, neighbors, and community depend on everyone being vaccinated.  Get your vaccine now and please visit the Borough website (www.hightstownborough.com) regularly for updates on COVID and the various activities, events and projects that are taking place in the Borough.

Sincerely,

Susan Bluth
